Sophomores who have purchased a class ring will be attending the ring ceremony on April 18 in the commons.
The ring ceremony will last for 60 minutes. About 225 students are expected to attend.
“I’m excited to get my ring,” sophomore Maggie Kube said. Students choose what they want their rings to look like. They pick out stones, sides, styles, and color.
Each year sophomores are presented with the opportunity to purchase a class ring and attend the ring ceremony.
“[As sophomores] you become more involved,” Diane Fingers, sophomore class sponsor said. “Having pride sides now have a meaning behind them.”
The ring ceremony is thought of as a special moment made just for sophomores and to give them recognition.
When the ceremony begins, each student’s name is called for them to go pick up their long awaited ring.
They pick up a bag that has their ring, a necklace of their ring, and a T-shirt with their graduating year on it.
“Every class has their own persona. Sometimes I go watch from the loft,” Fingers said. “Its like Christmas. They are not just proud of the sport they are in but of their school.”
The sophomores are given McDonalds and time to spend with their friends before they head back to class.
Many students purchased a ring to help keep memories of their high school years. The class ring ceremony is there to help begin with the memories.
“Memories,” Fingers said. “A piece of jewelry you can have for the rest of your life.”
Students and parents spend about $300-$400 on class rings. The ceremony recognizes the students for spending their money on something that they can keep for a lifetime.
