Morgan dedicates herself to FHN theater

by felix ruediger

There’s the one moment in the auditorium on the day of a drama show, when the lights go down and the audience gets still. Senior Allison Morgan has experienced the feeling right before a show many times. She was the student director of this year’s spring play that took place on April 10-12.

“I enjoy the theater,” Morgan said. “I’ve enjoyed it since I was little. I was first involved with my dad, then with real performances at high school.”

Morgan has been involved as an actor in many different plays in her four years at North. The job as a student director was a new challenge for her.

“She is in charge of leading the actors to the final performance,” Drama and Speech teacher Kathy Carron said.

Carron is in charge of the drama department at North. She decided to make Morgan the student director after Morgan sent her an application letter.

“I agreed with what she said in the letter,” Carron said. “She also posesses leadership qualities. ... I think the students have respect for her, because she has integrity. It was an easy decision.”

Morgan’s job as a student director was very different from her job as an actor.

“There’s a lot more thinking and planning,” she said. “You have to picture everything and not only your own part.”

In “Noises Off” Morgan worked with an ensemble of nine actors.

“I think Allison is like Mary Poppins,” senior and “Poppy” in the play, Megan Opich said. “Practically perfect in every way.”

Morgan was happy about the show’s outcome.

“I am extremely satisfied,” she said. “It was a lot of fun and work.”

Morgan is confident that she will be able to continue working with theater after senior year.

“I’ve had the dream for theater forever,” she said. “Basically there’s nothing that’s going to stop me trying to pursue [it].”
