Seniors receive awards

by d.j. shewmaker

Last night, seniors filed into the gymnasium around 6:30 p.m. and attempted to find their seats amidst the newly decorated bleachers. Nearly the entire senior class attended the highly anticipated Senior Awards Night and many came away with their hands full of medals, chords and certificates.

“[Senior Awards Night] is to recognize the seniors for their achievements in high school,” Tom Daugherty, college counselor, said. “What we do at the end, is we go through and read the scholarships the students were offered.”

Admittedly Daugherty believes that some students don’t look forward to the awards night until they get there and realize that they will be recognized for what they have done. He says that parents are usually the ones that are almost always very excited to have their child receive an award.

“I am looking forward to senior awards night, because I deserve to be honored and exhalted for my greatness,” senior and AP student, Scott Henson said.

Many students and staff members look forward to this night, including those who worked so hard to put it together.

“The main thing is that it’s one of the things you enjoy putting time into,” Daugherty, who has been in charge of the program for a number of years, said. “It’s kind of neat looking out and seeing the entire senior class, and seeing what they’ve done over their four years in high school. It’s really satisfying.”
